Weather Report: This time is proving to be very challenging for Mumbaikars. Heavy rains lashed Mumbai on Monday for the third consecutive day, prompting the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to issue a ‘red alert’ for the city and Mumbai suburban districts. This means that heavy to very heavy rains are also expected in the coming few hours.

According to IMD data, in the last 24 hours till 8:30 am on Monday, 99 mm of rain was recorded at Santacruz station in the suburb and 38 mm at Colaba Marine Observatory. At the same time, according to BMC’s automatic weather stations, the highest rainfall from 8 am on Sunday to 6 am on Monday was recorded in the eastern suburbs, where an average of 60.57 mm of rain was recorded. The western suburbs recorded 52.30 mm and the island city recorded 45 mm of rain.

Weather Report: Mumbai traffic and waterlogging

Due to heavy rains, many places in the city are flooded. The Andheri subway has been closed for both lanes, and vehicles are now taking the Thackeray Bridge and Gokhale Bridge route. Waterlogging has also slowed down traffic at Vakola Bridge, Hayat Junction and Khar Subway.

Weather Report: Local trains and airport

Local trains are also running late by 10 to 20 minutes due to heavy rains. Meanwhile, due to slow traffic on routes to Mumbai airport, airlines like Akasa Air and IndiGo have advised passengers to take extra time and check flight updates. The airlines said airport staff will be available to help passengers.

Highest rainfall in Mumbai and Navi Mumbai

Nerul in Navi Mumbai recorded the highest rainfall of 147.60 mm in the last 24 hours. On an average, Navi Mumbai received 115.17 mm of rain. The city has received a total of 1,948.78 mm of rain since June 1. The water level of Morbe Dam has reached 85.40 meters (87.10%). Mumbai recorded more than 100 mm of rain in many places in the last 24 hours.

Heavy rains continue in Mumbai, Ratnagiri, Raigad, Satara and Kolhapur districts. IMD has issued an ‘Orange Alert’ for Jalna, Beed, Pune and Chandrapur. There is also a possibility of high tide (about 3.08 meters) in coastal areas.

Mumbai’s heavy rains have affected the daily routine of the city dwellers. Delays in local trains, waterlogging and traffic jams have made everyone alert.
