Today is Friday, October 24, 2025, and the festive season is still ongoing across the country. Many people are wondering whether banks are open or closed today due to Chhath Puja celebrations. To clear this confusion, here’s the complete RBI holiday list for this week, including state-wise details on bank closures related to the festival and other major occasions.

Bank Situation Today

There is no festival scheduled for today, October 24. Hence, banks will remain open for all regular services. This comes after a series of holidays that took place earlier in the week for Diwali, Bhai Dooj, Bhai Bij, Chitragupta Puja, Lakshmi Puja, and Govardhan Puja. So, customers can visit their local bank branches today without any issue.

Chhath Puja Holiday Dates

According to the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) calendar, Chhath Puja will be celebrated mainly in Bihar, Jharkhand, and parts of West Bengal. On October 27 and 28, banks in Patna, Ranchi, and Kolkata will remain closed for evening and morning worship respectively. In other states, banking services will continue as usual on these days.

Other October Bank Holidays

This month also includes other scheduled holidays. On October 25, which is the fourth Saturday, all banks across India will be closed. October 26 being a Sunday will also be a holiday nationwide. Then, October 31 will be observed as a holiday in Ahmedabad due to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s birth anniversary. These closures are as per the RBI’s regional holiday schedule.

Bank Holidays State-Wise

Different states follow their own bank holiday calendars depending on local festivals. For example, while Bihar and Jharkhand will observe holidays for both days of Chhath Puja, West Bengal banks will only close on October 27. Meanwhile, states like Maharashtra, Delhi, and Karnataka will see no additional holidays this week.

Banking Services During Holidays

Even though physical bank branches will remain closed during these holidays, online banking services will continue as usual. Customers can easily complete their transactions through internet banking, mobile apps, UPI, and ATMs. So, there’s no interruption to essential banking facilities even when branches are shut.

RBI Holiday Guidelines

The Reserve Bank of India issues a detailed list of holidays every year under three categories – Negotiable Instruments Act, Real Time Gross Settlement Holidays, and Bank Closing of Accounts. These rules ensure uniformity and clarity regarding bank operations across all states.

Key Takeaway for Customers

If you are planning to visit your bank this week, it’s best to check the state-wise holiday list first. Since today, October 24, is not a holiday, you can go ahead and complete your transactions smoothly. However, plan your visits carefully around October 25 to 28 to avoid any inconvenience during the festive week.
