The monsoon continues to bring widespread rainfall across India, and October is witnessing heavy downpours in many regions. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an alert for several states, warning of very heavy rain in the coming days. The cyclonic storm over the Arabian Sea is weakening, but its remnants could move eastward, bringing rain to South India, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, and Maharashtra over the next few days.

Heavy Rain Predicted Across Southern India

According to the India Meteorological Department, several parts of South India are likely to receive light to moderate rainfall with isolated heavy showers between October 8 and 13. Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Mahe, Lakshadweep, Karnataka, Rayalaseema, and Andhra Pradesh are expected to witness significant rainfall. IMD has also issued a thunderstorm alert for these states, along with warnings of strong winds and lightning for the next five days.

Rainfall Expected in Eastern and Central States

The IMD report indicates that Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Gangetic West Bengal, and Odisha will continue to receive rainfall for the next three to four days. Bihar and Jharkhand may see light to moderate rain on October 8, while eastern Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh are likely to experience thunderstorms accompanied by lightning on the same day. These weather conditions suggest the monsoon’s active phase is yet to slow down.

North-East States to Witness More Rain

The northeastern part of India will also see increased rainfall during this period. According to IMD, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura may receive light to heavy rain from October 8 to 10. Thunderstorms and strong winds are expected in some areas, and people are advised to stay alert.

Rain Likely in Gujarat, Maharashtra, and Goa

Light to moderate rainfall is expected in Konkan, Goa, and Central Maharashtra on October 8. The weather department has also predicted thunderstorms and lightning in several regions of Maharashtra for the next four days. Gujarat is also likely to see rain in certain parts due to moisture from the Arabian Sea and the weakening cyclonic system.

Increased Rainfall in Southern India

IMD predicts that southern states will continue to see an increase in rainfall over the next five to six days. The weakening cyclone in the Arabian Sea is expected to push moisture toward southern India, intensifying the monsoon. Heavy showers are likely in coastal regions and isolated heavy rainfall could occur in Tamil Nadu and Kerala.

Cyclonic System Impact

Although the cyclonic storm over the Arabian Sea is weakening, its effect on the weather pattern continues. The remnants of the system may move eastward, causing additional rainfall across southern and central parts of India. This system has also contributed to the moisture build-up that will bring rain to several inland states in the coming days.

IMD’s Advisory for Public Safety

The IMD has advised residents of affected states to stay updated with local weather warnings and avoid outdoor activities during heavy rainfall. Farmers and fishermen have been asked to remain cautious, especially in coastal and low-lying regions, as the sea conditions may remain rough for the next few days.

Weather Outlook for the Coming Week

With a heavy rain forecast for the next five days, the monsoon’s late surge is likely to impact travel and agriculture activities in many regions. States like Maharashtra, Kerala, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu will need to prepare for persistent rainfall and thunderstorms as the weather system continues its influence through mid-October.
