Congested areas like Station Chowk, Khalifabagh Chowk, Adampur, Tilkamanjhi, Barari, Babarganj, Mayaganj, Sabour and Nathnagar were the most affected. Due to lack of cleaning of drains at many places, rain water kept accumulating on the roads. The result was that the streets and neighborhoods were submerged, and people were forced to go through the mud.

Traffic became the biggest problem for the people

Due to the rain, the traffic system of the city completely collapsed. School and office goers had to remain stuck in traffic jams for hours at Station Chowk and Khalifabagh turn. Long queues of trucks were formed from Sabour to Zero Mile. Bike riders had to face extreme difficulties while passing through potholes and water-filled roads.

Weather Update: When water reached homes

Water entered inside homes in lower parts of areas like Sabour, Barari, Zero Mile, Shamshan Ghat and Adampur. People had to walk in knee-deep water and had to work hard to remove water from homes. The condition of children and the elderly was even more pathetic.

Questions raised on Municipal Corporation

This heavy rain exposed the preparations of the Municipal Corporation. City residents say that the drains were not cleaned on time and garbage was accumulated at many places, which hindered drainage. Municipal Corporation officials said in their clarification that pressure has increased due to continuous rain and soon arrangements for drainage will be made.

The Meteorological Department has warned that due to the system formed in the Bay of Bengal, intermittent rain may continue for the next two days. In such a situation, it will take time to get relief from waterlogging in low-lying areas. People have been advised not to leave the house unnecessarily and take necessary precautions.

Rain is the most beautiful gift of nature, but when its preparation is incomplete, it can make life difficult. This rain has come as a lesson for the people of Bhagalpur that strengthening the system of the city is now the biggest need of the hour.
