The Meteorological Department has issued an ‘Orange Alert’ for Kangra, Solan and Sirmaur districts of Himachal. Heavy to very heavy rains, lightning and stormy winds are expected in these areas on Wednesday. People have been advised to stay in safe places and avoid unnecessary travel.

The national capital, Delhi, may also receive light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning on Wednesday. By 9 am, Delhi’s Air Quality Index (AQI) was recorded at 85, which falls in the ‘satisfactory’ category. Talking about the northeastern states, heavy rains continue in many areas of Assam and Meghalaya. Tezpur (Sonitpur district) recorded 7 cm of rainfall, due to which the water level in the rivers there has increased and floods are expected.

According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), now the southwest monsoon has spread across the country and due to this, heavy to very heavy rains are expected in many states in the next seven days. Heavy rains are expected, especially in Himachal Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Bihar, Odisha, eastern Madhya Pradesh and western Uttar Pradesh. The Meteorological Department has issued red and orange alerts for these states, advising the administration and the general public to remain alert.
