Tanvi The Great: In today’s time, when the world of films is becoming limited to action and glamour, Anupam Kher’s film “Tanvi the Great” comes as a ray of hope, which not only touches the heart but also shakes the soul.
Tanvi The Great: The unique world of a special girl
The film begins with a mission of Captain Samar Raina (Karan Tacker) and Major Srinivasan, when they are travelling on a bridge in Kashmir. Samar gets a call from his wife Vidya (Pallavi Joshi), and then their daughter Tanvi says ‘Jai Hind’ on the phone. It is revealed here that Tanvi suffers from autism, but her father calls her his ‘angel’ “, different but not less.”
But fate has something else in store. A bomb blast occurs on the bridge, and Samar dies a painful death. The story that takes place 15 years later shows the bonding between Vidya and Tanvi beautifully. Vidya, who is an autism expert, makes her daughter feel every moment that she is not ‘different’ but ‘special’.
When the music filled the life between the grandfather and granddaughter
Vidya has to go to work for the World Autism Foundation in America for nine months, and she sends Tanvi to Lansdowne to stay with her grandfather, retired Colonel Pratap Raina (Anupam Kher). Pratap has been living alone for the last 15 years – first his son’s martyrdom and then his wife’s death have broken him from within.
The distance and coldness is visible in the first meeting of Tanvi and Pratap. Tanvi calls him ‘Pratap’ and not ‘Dadu’. Pratap, on the other hand, takes time to accept his illness. But when Tanvi starts learning music from Raza sahab (Boman Irani), the talent hidden in her soul slowly starts to come out in the open. The music not only gives Tanvi a new flight, but also adds warmth to the relationship between grandfather and granddaughter.
Powerful performance and heart-touching story
The story of the film is as emotional as its casting. Shubhangi Dutt has played the character of Tanvi with such innocence and depth that you start understanding things from her eyes. Anupam Kher has played the role of a rough but broken father and grandfather with great sensitivity.
Actors like Karan Tacker, Pallavi Joshi, Boman Irani, Jackie Shroff, Arvind Swami, Nasser and Ian Glen have brought life to their respective roles, which makes this film even more powerful.
Music and direction: A soul-touching combination
The music of the film not only takes the story forward, but also becomes a medium to convey the inner emotions of Tanvi to the audience. Anupam Kher’s direction is very honest. He has presented a sensitive subject with great simplicity and depth.
Tanvi The Great: Why watch ‘Tanvi the Great’
If you are also one of those people who consider cinema not just entertainment but a feeling, then ‘Tanvi the Great’ is a perfect film for you. This film not only changes the society’s thinking about autism, but also tells that every ‘different’ child is ‘great’ in some way or another other they just need to understand and adopt it.
