The Meteorological Department has issued an alert for heavy rain and thunderstorms in Bihar for the next two days. Several districts are likely to experience strong winds and lightning during this period. The situation may cause waterlogging in low-lying areas and affect normal life. People are advised to stay alert and avoid unnecessary travel during heavy rainfall hours.

Heavy Rain Alert in 15 Districts

The weather department has predicted heavy to very heavy rain in around 15 districts of Bihar. These include Patna, Gaya, Nalanda, Nawada, Aurangabad, Jehanabad, Bhojpur, Buxar, Rohtas, Kaimur, Siwan, Saran, Begusarai, Lakhisarai, and Munger. The department said that the monsoon is active over the state, and moisture from the Bay of Bengal is continuously reaching Bihar, increasing rain activity.

Thunderstorm and Lightning Warning

Along with rainfall, the IMD has also warned of thunderstorms and lightning in several districts. People working in open areas or farmlands have been advised to take shelter during lightning. The wind speed may reach up to 40 kmph during the thunderstorm, causing minor damage to weak structures and trees. The department also mentioned that power supply and road traffic could face temporary disruption.

Rainfall Impact on Agriculture

The rainfall is expected to be beneficial for paddy crops in many districts where irrigation was a concern. However, continuous heavy rain may also damage standing crops in low-lying fields. Farmers are advised to make arrangements for proper water drainage. The agriculture department has been asked to monitor the situation closely and assist farmers if needed.

Waterlogging and Flood Risk

With heavy rain expected in the coming two days, several urban and rural areas may experience waterlogging. The disaster management department has alerted local authorities to be on standby. Areas near rivers such as the Ganga, Punpun, and Sone are being closely monitored for rising water levels. In some places, flood-like situations may occur if rain continues for a longer period.

Government Preparedness

The Bihar government has directed district administrations to remain vigilant and ensure quick response in case of emergencies. Relief teams have been kept ready in sensitive areas. The weather department’s warning has been shared widely through local media and messages to alert people. Control rooms are functioning in Patna and other major districts to handle any situation.

Advice for Residents

People have been advised not to step out during heavy rain unless necessary. Those living in low-lying or flood-prone areas are asked to stay alert and shift to safer places if required. The health department has also warned against waterborne diseases that may spread after heavy rainfall. Citizens are urged to keep emergency numbers handy.

Rain Forecast for Coming Days

The IMD has said that the rain intensity may reduce gradually after two days, but cloudy skies and light rain will continue in many areas. Northern Bihar may see moderate rainfall, while southern parts may experience scattered showers. The temperature is likely to drop slightly due to continuous rainfall, providing relief from humidity.
