Valmiki Jayanti is celebrated every year on 20 October to honor the great sage, Maharishi Valmiki. Valmiki is also known as Adi Kavi, the first poet of Sanskrit literature. On the occasion of Valmiki Jayanti, Prime Minister Narendra Modi today paid tributes to Maharishi Valmiki and remembered his significant contribution in cherishing our rich past and glorious culture.
Sharing a message on Twitter, PM Modi said: “I bow to Maharishi Valmiki on the special occasion of Valmiki Jayanti. We remember his rich past and his fundamental contribution to furthering our glorious culture. Social empowerment But his emphasis continues to inspire us.” PM Modi also shared an audio clip from Mann Ki Baat aired a few days before Valmiki Jayanti last year, in which he talks about Maharishi Valmiki.
There are many legends about the birth of Maharishi Valmiki, who is said to have been born to Varuna, the ninth son of Maharishi Kashyapa and Goddess Aditi, and his wife Charshini. The credit of writing the first verse in this area also goes to Maharishi Valmiki.
Every year, Valmiki Jayanti is celebrated on the full moon day of Ashwin month to mark the birth anniversary of Maharishi Valmiki.
