Uttar Pradesh government will light 12 lakh lamps in Ayodhya on Diwali

Ayodhya: The Uttar Pradesh government will light 12 lakh earthen lamps in this city, of which nine lakh will be lit on the banks of river Saryu, breaking the previous Diwali record. Last year, during the “Deepotsav”, over six lakh earthen lamps were lit to celebrate the festival, setting a world record.

According to a government statement, staging of Ram Leelas, a 3D holographic display, laser show and fireworks will be part of the five-day celebrations, which will begin on Monday. According to the statement from 6 pm on November 3, till 6.30 pm, nine lakh lamps will be lit on the banks of the river, while the remaining three lakh will be lit in different parts of the city. A Sri Lankan cultural group has been invited to perform the Rama Leela, which will be followed by a series of literary and cultural events from November 1 to 5.

A team from Nepal’s Janakpur will perform a Ramlila on Monday, in which teams from Jammu and Kashmir, Gujarat, Assam, Karnataka and West Bengal will also perform during the five-day event. On November 3, the day of “Deepotsav”, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Governor Anandiben Patel will receive a “Pushpak Vimana,” a helicopter symbolically receiving Lord Rama, Laxman and Sita, at Ayodhya’s Ram Katha Park.
