Toyota-Maruti SUV May Launch By The End Of 2022

Toyota-Maruti Upcoming SUV: Toyota and Maruti Suzuki are working to launch the new compact SUV by the festive season of 2022. The first jointly developed SUV, codenamed Toyota D22 and Maruti Suzuki YFG, will be a potential competitor to the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Skoda Kushak, MG Astor and Volkswagen Taigun in the Indian market. Here are the top 5 things you should know about the upcoming Toyota-Maruti SUV.

Spotted testing multiple times on Indian roads, the exterior design of the Toyota D22 SUV will be inspired by the Yaris Cross, RAV4 and Corolla Cross. As seen in earlier spy shots, the SUV will get a split headlamp setup with dual LED DRLs and the signature Toyota grille. The front bumper of the SUV gets a honeycomb-patterned air-dam, and the side profile is surrounded by square-off wheel arches.

Inside, the SUV is likely to share a lot of features with the Toyota Corolla Cross. The Toyota D22 will get a free-flowing touchscreen infotainment system in the center of the dashboard, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, automatic AC, connected car technology, automatic wipers and headlamps, ORVMs and an electrically adjustable driver’s seat. Apart from this, Toyota may also offer advanced diver assistance system features in the upcoming SUV.

Maruti Suzuki and Toyota are planning to bring hybrid powertrains before electric vehicles in the Indian market. The upcoming Toyota-Maruti SUV will likely be available in two petrol engine options – a mild hybrid and a strong hybrid. The former will be powered by a 1.5-litre K15 C DualJet petrol engine mated to the SHVS mild-hybrid system, while the latter will likely use a larger battery pack coupled with an electric mill.
