Sports Desk. Team India’s two senior batsmen Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane are going through poor form. This batsman has not been able to do much in the last 6 innings on the South Africa tour. Mayank does not have many answers in front of the South African bowlers. It is not that Mayank is going through poor form, but he has a lot of flaws in his technique which makes him easy prey on pitches that are helpful for fast bowlers. Before coming to South Africa, Mayank had scored 150 and 62 runs in the Mumbai Test against New Zealand.
Mayank Agarwal has scored only 135 runs against South Africa in all the innings of three Tests. His average has been just 22.50. Out of this, his innings of 60 runs is also included. Mayank has scored 60, 4, 26, 23, 15 and 7 in his last six innings. Mayank Agarwal has so far scored 1407 runs in 18 Tests for India at an impressive average of 45.38. But most of these runs have come in Indian conditions and have come in bunches. He has 4 centuries and 6 half-centuries to his name in Test cricket. Three out of four centuries came in 2019 itself, out of which two were double centuries.
On the return of Rohit Sharma, Mayank Agarwal will have to sit out of the team anyway. He had a good chance to prove himself in foreign conditions, in which he has failed. With good performances he could have stayed with the team but now players like Shubman Gill, Priyank Panchal and Prithvi Shaw will come ahead of him in the line of getting opportunities.
