Tata Motors is all set to launch a new electric car next week. The EV wing of the carmaker has teased the upcoming car ahead of its official launch on 6 April. While Tata hasn’t revealed details about the EV, it is expected to be a facelifted version of the Nexon EV with a higher range. Tata is also expected to launch an EV version of the Altroz premium hatchback. However, there is no definite launch timeline yet.
Tata Motors is reportedly preparing the long range Nexon EV. It is expected to come with a massive 40 kWh battery pack. According to reports, the new Tata Nexon EV can deliver a better range of over 400 kms on a single charge. The Nexon EV is currently sold with 30.2 kWh battery and 312 km range which is certified by ARAI. Apart from the longer range, the new Nexon EV could also offer a few upgrades, which could include new alloy wheels, new upholstery and an upgraded infotainment system and four disc brakes.
The current Nexon EV can accelerate from zero to 100 kmph in just 9.14 seconds and generates 127 bhp and 245 Nm of torque. Using a DC fast charger, the Tata Nexon EV can be charged up to 80 percent within an hour. However, it takes up to 8.30 hours to fill up from 10 per cent to 90 per cent when using a regular home charger. The Tata Nexon EV has been a major factor behind the carmaker’s impressive growth in the four wheeler electric vehicle segment in India.
Tata Motors, which sold over 2,250 electric cars in February, has a market share of over 96 per cent, mostly thanks to the success of the Nexon EV. In January this year, the carmaker announced that it has sold over 13,500 units of the Nexon EV in India since its launch two years ago. Tata Motors recently launched the dark version of Nexon EV, which is called Nexon Dark. Apart from the Dark Edition, which has two trims, the Nexon EV is available in three other variants in India.
