Lucknow: The killer uncle of former Team India cricketer Suresh Raina has been arrested on Sunday (18 July 2021) after almost a year. In the joint operation of the Special Task Force (STF) of Uttar Pradesh Police and Punjab Police, accused Chhajju alias Chhaymar has been arrested from his village. The accused was allegedly cutting a Ferrari in his village Pachpeda under Behari police station area of Bareilly district to evade arrest.
Chhajju alias Chaimar told STF that he and his friends Mohabbat, Shahrukh, Rashid, Aamir along with three women used to sell chadar and flowers in Shahpur, Punjab. The men also had a tempo from which they would move around with the women in the surrounding areas. According to reports, the accused told the STF that the women entered Suresh Raina’s aunt Ashok Kumar’s house on the pretext of selling flowers on the day of the incident and gathered all the information. After this he informed his gang members in this regard. Chhajju further said that his gang escaped at night after looting the jewelery and cash kept in the house. He said that he had fled to Hyderabad after the incident. After staying in Hyderabad for a few days, he returned to his village in Bareilly.
On the night of 19/20 August 2020, some robbers entered the house of former cricketer Suresh Raina’s aunt Ashok Kumar in Farial village of Pathankot. Ashok Kumar was sleeping on the terrace with the family at that time. During this, the robbers attacked him with sharp weapons and rods. Ashok Kumar (58) died on the spot, while his son Kaushal Kumar succumbed to his injuries in the hospital.
