What a proud moment! Indian-American tennis player Samir Banerjee, just 17, won the Wimbledon Boys Singles title on Sunday. It was his second Junior Grand Slam, which he won 7-5, 6-3.

Sameer Jr. was ranked under 20 at the French Open, his current rank being 19th in the world, and had earned him much fame with his tennis prowess. Not long ago, his parents immigrated to America in the 1980s.

Yuki Bhambri was the last Indian to win a junior singles title when he won the Australian Open in 2009, while Sumit Nagal won Wimbledon Boys Doubles in 2015 with Lee Hoang Nam of Vietnam.

There are many Indians who have added to the world of sports, including Ramanathan Krishnan, who was the first Indian to win a junior major when he won the 1954 Junior Wimbledon Championships. His son Ramesh Krishnan won the 1970 Junior Wimbledon and Junior French Open titles, while Leander Paes won the 1990 Junior Wimbledon and Junior US Open.
