A shocking news has emerged that gymnast Oleg Verniev will not play the Tokyo Games as he has been banned on Tuesday following a banned drug test. He tested positive for the banned substance meldonium and was banned by the Gymnastics Ethics Foundation, which hears disciplinary cases in the sport.
Verniev said the GEF “decided that the concentration of meldonium found in my body is enough to ban me for four years” and that the ban is old enough to run through November 2020. It could also exclude him from the 2024 Olympics in Paris.
Verniev denied this and said he would appeal to the CAS. “The main question is how did the banned substances get into my body?” She wrote. “Why did this happen at a time when there were no serious international competitions and only light training?”
The 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics will be remembered for his sport that won a gold medal competing with world class players. Since then, his competitive appearance has been limited by injuries and is now ruled out of the Olympics as a result of his ban.
