New Delhi: Yashpal Sharma, former cricketer and member of 1983 world champion Team India, has sadly passed away. He died of a heart attack at the age of 66. Former captain Kapil Dev could not hold back his tears on the death of Yashpal Sharma. Remembering Yashpal Sharma on a TV channel, Kapil Dev became emotional and started crying.

Sharma scored 1606 runs in 37 Tests for India. His highest score was 140 and average 33.45 runs. In ODI cricket, he scored 883 runs in 42 matches at an average of 28.48. His members of the 1983 Cricket World Cup winning team can’t believe it. Yashpal’s companions Kapil Dev, Madan Lal and Kirti Azad are all saddened to hear this news. He says that it is like the passing of a family member himself.

Kirti Azad, a member of the 1983 World Cup team, said, ‘Our family is broken. Yashpal had set the agenda for the 1983 World Cup. We met on June 25. He was very happy. He was the fittest of all of us.’ While Madan Lal said that Yashpal left us, he could not believe it. He said that on receiving the news, he had called Kapil Dev, it was difficult for him to believe it.
