The Rajasthan government has named Tokyo Paralympic gold medalist Avani Lekha as the state’s brand ambassador for the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao campaign. Women and Child Development Minister Mamta Bhupesh said on Tuesday that her department is happy to name Lekhara as the host of the campaign for the cause.
According to Shreya Guha, Senior Secretary, Women and Child Development Department, Lekhara’s engagement will create an enabling environment in the society for the education of girls. Lekra, 19, hails from Jaipur and is wheelchair-bound after an accident in 2012. He was paralyzed below his waist, with an injured spinal cord.
Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot announced cash prizes for three sportspersons from the state who won medals in the Tokyo event. 3 crore to Lekhara for winning gold in shooting, Rs 2 crore to Devendra Jhajharia for winning silver in javelin and Rs 1 crore to Sunder Singh Gurjar for winning bronze medal in the same event. All three players have already been appointed to the post of Assistant Conservator of Forests in the State Forest Department.
