The weather across the country is undergoing rapid change due to the active western disturbance over the Himalayan region. The Meteorological Department has issued warnings of snowfall and rain for the hilly states of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand. Meanwhile, a low-pressure system in the Bay of Bengal has triggered alerts for heavy rainfall in southern states, while pollution levels in Delhi continue to rise.
Heavy Rain Alert in Southern States
According to the Meteorological Department, a yellow alert has been issued for Tamil Nadu, where heavy rainfall is expected on Wednesday. The same weather pattern could bring significant rainfall to parts of Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, and Karnataka. The low-pressure system in the Bay of Bengal is expected to strengthen, increasing the chances of thunderstorms in coastal regions. The northeastern states, including Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura, are also likely to experience moderate rainfall during this period.
Snowfall Expected in Hilly Regions
Due to the western disturbance, higher areas of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand may see snowfall starting November 5. The Meteorological Department warns that while upper regions will receive snow, the lower hills could see rain accompanied by cold winds. This change in weather could lead to a noticeable drop in temperatures, especially during the night. Tourists and locals have been advised to take precautions while travelling in mountain areas.

Thunderstorm and Strong Wind Warning
The IMD has also issued an alert for thunderstorms and rain from November 5 to November 7 across northern hilly states. Winds may reach speeds of 40 to 50 kilometres per hour in parts of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand. These strong winds might disrupt road connectivity in mountain regions and affect normal life temporarily.
Weather in North India
In North India, including Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, and Delhi, light rainfall may occur in isolated areas. However, most regions are likely to experience dry weather. Pollution levels in Delhi and surrounding areas remain severe, causing visibility issues during morning hours. The dry conditions could continue until November 10, after which the temperature is expected to fall sharply, marking the start of a severe winter.
Conditions in Western and Central India
Parts of Konkan, Goa, and Central Maharashtra may also witness cloudy skies and intermittent rain. This shift is linked to moisture-laden winds moving inland from the Arabian Sea. Although the rainfall will not be widespread, some regions may see short-term showers. Farmers have been advised to take precautions to protect crops from unexpected weather activity.

Northeastern and Coastal Weather Updates
The northeastern states are also expected to receive light to moderate rainfall due to changing wind patterns. Manipur, Nagaland, Mizoram, and Tripura could witness scattered rain during the next few days. Similarly, coastal areas of Andhra Pradesh and Odisha might see occasional thunderstorms, which could disrupt flight and train schedules.
Severe Winter Ahead
The IMD has stated that after November 5, dry weather will dominate across North India, and by November 10, the temperature is expected to drop significantly. This will mark the onset of a severe winter season. Residents are advised to stay updated with local forecasts and take preventive measures against sudden weather changes.
