Nagpur: Dhaka-bound Bangladesh Airlines flight made an emergency landing at Nagpur airport after its captain suffered a heart attack and went into a coma. Apart from six crew members and a co-pilot, 126 passengers were on board the aircraft.
After 49-year-old captain Navshad Ataul Qayyum suffered a heart attack, 29-year-old co-pilot Mirajul Paes landed the plane safely in Nagpur. Qayyum’s pilot license is valid until February 2026, his ID card shows.
A senior Nagpur airport official said, “Biman Bangladesh arranged for alternate crew, who took off for Nagpur. Thereafter, the stranded aircraft left for the destination with passengers at 10.37 pm on Friday night. Pilot’s condition He is still critical and is undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Nagpur. Sources said the pilot was taken to Kingsway Hospital, which is located about 10 km from the Nagpur airport.
Nagpur air traffic control was contacted at around 11 am, and ground personnel quickly swung into action to facilitate the landing of the aircraft by the shortest possible route. “The plane took about 20 minutes to reach Nagpur and the pilot was taken to a hospital,” airport in-charge Roshan Kamble said.
