Taliban encourages Afghanistan cricket after meeting national cricketers

Afghanistan Crisis: Taliban declared that cricketers and cricket are safe in Afghanistan when they ruled earlier and they will promote the game going forward. Taliban’s political office and negotiating team member Anas Haqqani made the remarks during a meeting with members of the national cricket team. National cricket team captain Hashmatullah Shahidi, former Cricket Board selection committee chairman Asadullah and Noor Ali Zadran participated in the conference.

During the meeting, Haqqani assured the cricket sector and promised to immediately assess the problems faced by the cricketers. During the meeting, the players thanked Anas Haqqani and his delegation and expressed their desire for support from the Taliban. Another member of the Taliban’s political team, Sohail Shaheen, also expressed support for the cricket team, saying it came days after he expected to see the planned Afghanistan-Pakistan match.

Afghanistan and Pakistan will play 3 ODIs in Sri Lanka from 1 to 5 September. Taliban members met former cricket captain Asghar Stanikzai and national team member Navroz Mangal in Kabul earlier this week.
