Kabul: With the Taliban coming to power in Afghanistan, Afghan music artists are either fleeing the country to save their lives or hiding their musical instruments. Since the Taliban seized power in the country last month, music artists have been scared and closing their offices and some have hidden their equipment in storerooms.
Some artists and singers have started reaching Pakistan after saving their lives from Afghanistan. The Taliban captured the capital Kabul on 15 August last month. Even if we give up our profession, the Taliban will not leave us, said Pashun Munawwar, a singer who fled the country. All concerts have been canceled since the Taliban took over Kabul. Another singer, Ajmal, said that he changed his dress after the Taliban captured Kabul and came to Peshawar.
He further said that “we have no enmity with the Taliban. We consider him as our brother, but since he does not like our work, we feel insecure under his rule.” Afghan music lovers have closed their offices following the rapidly changing situation in Afghanistan.
