Amid fierce fighting between the government armed forces and the Taliban, Afghanistan’s Army Chief General Wali Mohammad Ahmadzai Indian Army Chief General M.M. Naravane. Ahmedzai will be in India from July 27 to July 29, during which he is going to meet top dignitaries including National Security Advisor Ajit Doval here.
The visit comes as Pakistan, along with the Taliban, has started targeting Indian assets in Afghanistan. India has invested more than USD 3 billion in infrastructure projects including roads, dams and Parliament House in Afghanistan. In addition, a government delegation led by Abdullah and Taliban representatives is holding peace talks in Doha, Qatar. Fighting between Afghan forces and the Taliban has intensified over the past month following the withdrawal of US forces. After the withdrawal of America, the Taliban have started increasing their influence in the war-torn country.
Earlier this month, the Afghan politician leading the High Council for National Reconciliation (HCNR) Abdullah Abdullah visited India. He is striving for peace despite ongoing fighting between government forces and the Taliban. For India, the main concern is the use of Taliban-controlled territory by Pakistan-based terrorist groups. India is in touch with the Afghan government regarding the developing situation.
