New Guidelines For Fastag Check Here Date And More Details
Under the new guidelines issued by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), FASTag users will soon be able to switch over to their vehicles with the new tag, if they so desire. Earlier this service was very restricted, as a FASTag was permanently attached to each car number. If a user wants to confiscate or switch his FASTag due to damage or dissatisfaction, he has to go through a cumbersome process in which the vehicle number is changed to include his chassis number.
The system was originally designed to discourage users from acquiring a new tag with the intention of avoiding paying the dues on their existing FASTags. The negative balance FASTag finally put the burden on banks and financial institutions, who had to pay tolling companies on behalf of defaulting users.
However, NPCI is now adding three new codes in the system which will make it easier to switch off the existing FASTag and choose a new option. Presently the status of a tag is determined under three codes, Blacklist, Low Balance and Exempt. Under the new guidelines, three more codes will be added that are Hotlist, Closed/Replaced and Invalid Carriage.
As per the NPCI circular, tags with negative balance or violence will come under the hotlist. FASTag of a user who closes his account, surrenders the tag or switches to a new issuing bank/unit will be classified as closed/replaced. Those who have been marked for violence by regulatory bodies will be added to the invalid category. The new guidelines are going to come into effect from June 30.
