MPLADS fund for MPs restored, this year every MP will get only Rs 2 crore


New Delhi: The Union Cabinet on Wednesday (November 10) approved the restoration and continuation of the Parliamentarian Local Area Development Scheme (MPLADS).

Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur said in a press conference after a cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi that the scheme has been reinstated for the remainder of the financial year 2021-2022 and will continue till 2025-2026.

The plan aims to allow lawmakers to recommend development projects that focus on building long-term community assets in areas such as drinking water, primary education, public health, sanitation and roads. The total cost of restoring and maintaining the MPLADS by 2025-26 is estimated to be Rs 17417 crore. Thakur said that funds would be released in one installment at the rate of Rs 2 crore per MP for the remaining period of 2021-22. According to Thakur, under the scheme funds will be released at the rate of Rs 5 crore per year in two installments of Rs 2.5 crore to each MP from 2022-23 to 2025-26.
