Market open with strong rise in Sensex and Nifty


Equity benchmark Sensex climbed over 500 points in the morning session on October 18 (Monday) on widespread buying despite a weak trend in global markets. The 30-share Sensex was trading 512 points higher at 61,819 after touching an all-time high of 61,894.33 in opening deals. Similarly, Nifty rose 157.40 points to reach 18,495.95. It touched a new intra-day record of 18,521.10 in opening deals.

At around 11.30 pm, Hindalco was the top gainer in the Sensex pack with gains of over 2 per cent including Tata Motors, JSW Steel, Titan and Infosys. On the other hand, HCL Tech, Asian Paint, Dr Reddy Lab, Baja Auto and Cipla were trading in losses at this time.

In the previous session on Thursday, the 30-share index ended 568.90 points or 0.94 per cent higher at 61,305.95 and the Nifty rose 176.80 points or 0.97 per cent to a new high of 18,338.55. Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) were net buyers in the capital market, as they bought shares worth Rs 1,681.60 crore, according to exchange data.
