It is always disappointing and heartbreaking to hear of an elephant being killed while crossing a railway track. These events are traumatic, yet they occur frequently. However, a video that went viral on social media showed an elephant being saved by two loco pilots while walking along the railway track.
You might wonder how? The loco pilots saw the tusker approaching the railway tracks and applied the brakes in time, saving his life. In a video going viral on social media, the elephant can be seen moving away from the tracks and into the bush as the train is moving. The incident took place between Nagarkata-Chalsa (West Bengal).

The video was shared on the official Twitter account of Alipurduar Division, NF Railway. “Today at 17.45 Hrs while working on 03150Dn Kanchankanya Express Special, Alert LP Shri D.Dorai and ALP Shri P.Kumar noticed a Tusker adjoining track on KM 72/1 between Nagarkata-Chalsa and tried to control the train and stop it. Apply emergency brake to save. (sic),” the video caption read. Timely action by loco pilots D Dorai and P Kumar saved the animal.
