South Indian film industry and Bollywood actress Rakul Preet Singh on Friday appeared before the Enforcement Directorate in Hyderabad to probe a money laundering case related to drug trafficking. The ED had summoned him to appear. The case pertains to busting a gang of drug smugglers in Hyderabad in 2017.
The ED had summoned 10 Telugu cinema personalities in connection with the sensational gang supplying costly drugs like LSD and MDMA. The Prohibition and Excise Department of Telangana has busted this gang. The ED has questioned Telugu cinema director Puri Jagannath and actress Charmi Kaur in the case.
The same drug gang was busted in July 2017 and several drug trafficking cases were registered and more than 20 people including an American national, a Portuguese national, a South African national were arrested. In addition, seven people with B.Tech degrees working in multinational companies were detained here. The names of some Tollywood (Telugu film industry) people came to the fore after interrogation of those arrested in connection with the gang. An SIT of the Telangana Prohibition and Excise Department had also investigated an alleged drug case involving Tollywood and then questioned 11 people associated with Telugu cinema.
