Kerala (Thiruvananthapuram): As part of measures to gear up for a possible third wave of the COVID pandemic, homeopathy hospitals and dispensaries in the southern state of Kerala will thereafter start treating COVID-19. After the concurrence of the Central Government and the Supreme Court, the State Government has given slow approval in this regard. The Union Department of AYUSH and the Supreme Court had earlier ordered that homeopathic remedies for the pandemic disease can be followed.
But since the state government did not issue the order immediately, the homeopathy doctors approached the Kerala High Court. The court had directed to issue the order within 28 days.
Department of AYUSH has prescribed 20 medicines for homeopathic treatment. Till now, only preventive medicines for COVID-19 were given through homeopathy hospitals in the state.
Recently it was reported in the media that AYUSH 64 is a polyherbal formulation which has been found useful in the treatment of asymptomatic, mild and moderate COVID-19 infection. It is recommended in the National Clinical Management Protocol based on Ayurveda and Yoga, which is vetted by ICMR’s National Task Force on COVID Management and Guidelines for Ayurveda Practitioners for COVID-19 Patients in Home Isolation.
As per reports, now 34 government sector homeopathy hospitals and 1,070 dispensaries can provide the treatment. Also private homeo hospitals have not been stopped from treating the disease.
