Bullet Train Viaducts Completed: Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project has achieved a significant milestone. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw confirmed that 300 km of viaducts have already been completed. He also launched a video footage of the construction with the Full Span Launching Method (FSLM), a technique accelerating India’s first bullet train corridor’s work progress.

Rapid Progress with FSLM

The National High-Speed Rail Corporation Ltd (NHSRCL), which is responsible for the project, authenticated that the milestone of 300-km viaduct was completed with the installation of a 40-metre-long girder close to Surat in Gujarat. Of the 300 km, 257.4 km were constructed by employing the Full Span Launching Method. This method has been extremely efficient in installing girders at a rate 10 times faster than traditional segmental techniques.

Aside from the FSLM section, the finished stretch is 37.8 km constructed with the Span by Span (SBS) technique. Further, there are 0.9 km of steel bridges, comprised of 10 spans with 60 to 130 meters. There is also 1.2 km of PSC bridges, comprising 20 spans of 40 to 80 meters. There is also 2.7 km of construction within the station buildings.

Construction Details So Far

The project has progressed substantially in other key construction works. NHSRCL reports 383 km of pier work completed. Foundation work is at 401 km completed. Girder casting, another critical component of the superstructure, has progressed to 326 km. These numbers indicate consistent progress towards India’s ambitious high-speed rail objective.

The Route and Project Scope

The bullet train line will be 508 kilometres long and link Mumbai with Ahmedabad. It will have 12 stations altogether—three in Maharashtra and nine in Gujarat. The station at Mumbai will be below ground, while all the others, including Thane, Virar, Boisar, Vapi, Bilimora, Surat, Bharuch, Vadodara, Anand, Ahmedabad, and Sabarmati, will be on the elevated level.

The total estimated cost of the project is ₹1.08 lakh crore. The central government is providing a contribution of ₹10,000 crore, and Maharashtra and Gujarat are each contributing ₹5,000 crore. These amounts assist the NHSRCL in implementing the project.

Target Completion by 2028

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis recently announced that the project would be finished by the end of 2028. With the enhanced rapid construction techniques currently employed and the consistent development pace, this deadline is starting to seem within reach.
