Kannappa: When a film has the presence of big stars like Prabhas, Akshay Kumar, Mohanlal and Kajal Aggarwal, the expectations of the audience start touching the sky. ‘Kannappa’ is also one such film, which brought a combination of mythology, action and devotion. It was clear from the trailer of the film that this is not a simple story, but it will be an emotionally connecting journey.
Kannappa: Great start, but dull second week
‘Kannappa’ was released in theaters on 27 June 2025 and earned a brilliant Rs 30.2 crore in the first week itself. The cameo support received by the film and the initial curiosity of the audience gave it a strong start. But as the days passed, the shine of the film started fading. The decline was clearly seen from the beginning of the second week – only 45 lakhs were earned on the eighth day, 60 lakhs on the ninth day and only 15 lakhs on the eleventh day.
On July 7, the film’s Telugu occupancy was 16.78%, with morning shows being slightly better, but viewership dropped in the afternoon and evening. Though there was some movement in the night shows, the trend cannot be called positive for the film.
Kannappa: The spiritual journey of a warrior
The film revolves around a fearless warrior named Thinnadu, who does not believe in Lord Shiva. But after the hardships and experiences of life, he becomes a devoted Shiva devotee. This transformation has been portrayed very emotionally and deeply by director Mukesh Kumar Singh. The climax of the film is so impressive that many viewers get emotional.
Vishnu Manchu has given a brilliant performance in the lead role. Honesty and dedication are visible in his performance. The film is strengthened by experienced actors like Mohan Babu, R. Sharatkumar, Madhu, Preeti Mukhundhan, Mukesh Rishi, Brahmaji and Brahmanandam. And then come stars like Prabhas and Akshay Kumar, whose small but effective roles leave a deep impact on the audience.
Visual beauty, the magic of music and the weakness of VFX
Another strong side of ‘Kannappa’ is its visual beauty. The way cinematographer Sheldon Chow has captured natural locations and spiritual scenes beautifully on camera makes every frame come alive. The music of the film also adds depth to the emotions, which conveys the story more strongly to the audience.
However, the VFX are weak in some parts of the film, which weakens its grandeur a bit. But despite this, the dedication and heartfelt effort of the film is felt in every scene.
Kannappa: Where did the mistake happen, and what is expected next
The slow pace of the first part of the film and the repetition of some dialogue reduced the interest of the audience for a while. At the same time, there was a lack in the marketing and promotional strategy, due to which the craze of the film gradually decreased. Still, its emotional message, spiritual connect, and the presence of superstars make it a special film.
It will now be interesting to see if word of mouth or a digital release will revive the film in the coming weeks.
