Actor-leader R. Sharat Kumar and his wife Radhika and another man were sentenced to one year in prison on the check bounce case. However, the special court constituted to hear the cases lodged against the MPs and MLAs has asked to adjourn it for 30 days after the appeal is filed by the accused.
Both are leaders while Kumar, the president of the political party All India Samathuv Makkal Katchi, is also a former MP and former MLA. According to Radiance Media Pvt Ltd, the company that funded the films, the Magic Frames Company took Rs 1.50 crore. Kumar, Radhika and Listin Stephen are partners in this company.
Kumar later took a loan of Rs 50 lakh from the company in return for which he issued a check. All checks bounced when checks were placed. A case was registered against the accused on the company’s complaint.
