Union Cabinet did this to promote solar PV module

The Union Cabinet on Wednesday approved the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme to add 10,000 MW capacity of integrated solar PV module manufacturing plants with an outlay of Rs 4,500 crore.

Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal gave details of PLI scheme ‘National Program on High Efficiency Solar PV Module’ with an outlay of Rs 4,500 crore. The government said the decision would add 10,000 MW capacity to integrated solar PV manufacturing plants and direct investment of about Rs 17,200 crore in solar PV manufacturing.

According to the government, the PLI scheme is expected to generate around 30,000 jobs and indirect employment of 1.2 lakh. The scheme, which aims to promote domestic manufacturing in the country, is a central government initiative to create a globally competitive industry and aims to produce high-value export-oriented goods.

Last week, the Union Cabinet gave its approval to a scheme to promote processed food manufacturing, with an estimated cost of Rs 10,900 crore to the government exchequer over the next six years.
