New Delhi: The Income Tax Department on Thursday raided the offices of media group Dainik Bhaskar in several cities for tax evasion. The department said that raids are being conducted at Bhopal, Jaipur, Ahmedabad and some other places in the country. However, there has been no official confirmation from the department or its policy-making body, the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT). Official sources said promoters of major Hindi media groups are also involved in the operation, which operate in multiple sectors.
Senior Congress leader and former Madhya Pradesh CM Digvijay Singh tweeted that tax officials are present in half a dozen premises of the group, including his office at the Press Complex in state capital Bhopal. The help of local police has been taken in the raid. Action is going on in the offices of Jaipur, Ahmedabad including Bhopal. These raids are being run by teams from Delhi and Mumbai. After getting information about the raid, the digital wing of the newspaper has been asked to work from home. Still waiting for more information. Sources said that raids are also being conducted at the Rajasthan office in connection with the matter.
Action is also going on at Jaipur Headquarters. It is learned that around 35 officers of Income Tax Department are checking documents here. The ED has already questioned the newspaper owners.
