The Union Finance Ministry on Sunday summoned Infosys Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Salil Parekh to explain the persistent glitches in the new income tax filing portal even after several complaints, an issue raised by Nirmala Sitharaman in her June year. Parekh is likely to appear before the finance ministry on Monday.
“The Finance Ministry on 23 August summoned Infosys MD & CEO Salil Parekh to explain to the Hon’ble Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman why the glitches in the portal have not been resolved even after 2.5 months of the launch of the new e-filing portal. Actually, the portal is not available since August 21.’
The new income tax portal, which was launched on June 7, has been designed by Infosys. However, several glitches have come to the fore since its launch with many taxpayers tagging Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman to address their concerns on Twitter. Considering the complaints, Sitharaman had asked Infosys to fix matters. Last week, Sitharaman had also assured that technical glitches in the new income tax portal would be rectified in the next few weeks.
Sitharaman had said the revenue secretary is observing it on a weekly basis and emphasized that the new system is “far better than in June but there are still some issues”. “I am constantly reminding Infosys (the vendor that developed the new portal), and (Infosys head) Nandan Nilekani messaging me with assurances that they will solve most of the problems in the next few days,” she said, As was reported. by media
