As Diwali 2025 approaches, the festive atmosphere has filled the markets with excitement. However, many people are curious to know whether it will rain during the festival. According to the Meteorological Department, South and East India may experience heavy rainfall in the coming days, while Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar are expected to remain mostly dry with clear skies.
No Rain Forecast for Northern Plains
After the monsoon withdrawal, there are currently no signs of rain in Delhi-NCR, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, and Punjab. The maximum temperature is likely to stay slightly above normal, while the minimum may drop a bit. People in the hilly regions might experience light drizzle and cool winds, marking the beginning of the winter season.
Weather Condition in Delhi-NCR
In the capital region, the weather is expected to stay dry for the next three days. The maximum temperature may remain between 34 to 36 degrees Celsius, and the minimum temperature will hover around 20 to 22 degrees Celsius. The Meteorological Department has not issued any rain warnings for Delhi, indicating a dry Diwali for the region.

Punjab and Haryana Feel the Early Chill
The northern plains of Punjab and Haryana are witnessing the early signs of winter. As per the latest update from the Meteorological Department, the maximum temperature may range between 33 to 35 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature could drop to 22 to 24 degrees Celsius. Clear skies and mild winds will dominate the weather pattern.
Dry Spell Continues in Central India
Madhya Pradesh and Bihar are also likely to remain dry for the next few days. These regions have already seen the monsoon’s withdrawal. While day temperatures remain moderately high, nights are getting cooler. The pleasant weather will continue through Diwali, offering comfortable conditions for outdoor celebrations.
Heavy Rain Alert for South India
On the other hand, southern India may face heavy rainfall in the coming days. The Meteorological Department has issued an alert for parts of Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and coastal Andhra Pradesh. Due to multiple cyclonic systems forming over the Bay of Bengal, rainfall intensity may increase, particularly in coastal areas and adjoining inland regions.

East India Likely to See Moderate Showers
In East India, states like Odisha, West Bengal, and Jharkhand may receive moderate to heavy rain in certain areas. According to the IMD bulletin issued on October 11, rain activity will continue here due to the movement of cyclonic winds and moisture inflow from the Bay of Bengal. However, North India will stay mostly clear and dry.
Monsoon Withdrawal and Temperature Outlook
The IMD meteorologists have confirmed that the monsoon will completely withdraw from Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, and parts of West Bengal, Sikkim, Odisha, and Telangana in the next two to three days. Following this, a mild cold wave is likely to spread across North India, indicating the transition towards winter.
